Customizing Guest Operating Systems
Forvirtualmachinescreatedfromtemplates,Stage Managercancustomizethe
networksettingsinsidetheguestoperatingsystem.Thesesettingsincludethemachine
name,IPsettings,andSecurityIdentifier(SID)forWindowsguestoperatingsystems.
Thiscustomizationallowsyouto createuniquevirtualmachinesfromtemplates
withoutmanualrequirements.
Stage Managercanassign
IPaddressesfromanIPaddresspool.See“Configuring
NetworkSettings”onpage 90.
Whenyouconfigureatemplatewiththeprerequisitesforguestcustomizationandadd
avirtualmachinetoaconfigurationbasedonthattemplate,Stage Managercreatesa
packagewithguestcustomizationtools.Deployingandpoweringonthatvirtual
machine
forthefirsttimecausesStage Managertocopythepackage,runthetools,and
deletethepackagefromthevirtualmachine.Thisautomaticprocesstakesafew
minutes.
Withoutguestcustomization,thevirtualmachineusesthesettingsofthetemplateitis
basedon.Thissituationcancreatemachinenameand
networkconflictswhenyou
deploymorethanonevirtualmachinecreatedfromthesametemplateatthesametime.
Toavoidtheseconflictswithoutguestcustomization,accessthevirtualmachine
consolethroughStage Managerandmanuallysetitsnetworkparameterstounique
values.IfyouhaveaWindowsvirtualmachine,changethe
SecurityIdentifier(SID)
usingMicrosoftSyspreporanotherthird‐partytool.
