To install VMware Tools in a FreeBSD guest
1Onthehost,selectVM>InstallVMwareTools.
IfanearlierversionofVMwareToolsisinstalled,themenuitemisUpdate
VMwareTools.Ifthecurrentversionisinstalled,themenuite
misReinstall
VMwareTools.
2Makesuretheguestoperatingsystemisrunningintextmode.
YoucannotinstallVMwareToolswhileXisrunning.
3Ontheguest,loginasroot.
4Ifnecessary,mounttheVMwareToolsvirtualCD‐ROMimagebyenteringa
commandsimilartothefollowing:
mount /cdrom
SomeFreeBSDdistributionsautomaticallymountCD‐ROMs.Ifyourdistribution
usesautomounting,skipthisstep.
5 Changetoaworkingdirectory(forexample,/tmp):
cd /tmp
6UntartheVMwareToolstarfile:
tar zxpf /cdrom/vmware-freebsd-tools.tar.gz
7Ifnecessary,unmounttheVMwareToolsvirtualCD‐ROMimage:
umount /cdrom
Ifyourdistributionusesautomounting,youdonotneedtounmounttheimage.
8RuntheVMwareToolsinstaller:
cd vmware-tools-distrib
./vmware-install.pl
9Logoutoftherootaccount:
exit
